Notchable is designed to keep most of your data on your Mac. Notchable can use the network for update checks and when you choose features that need it; those cases are described below.

Data kept on your Mac
App settings, Quick Notes, clipboard history, and Shelf metadata are stored locally on your Mac. Other features may keep local preferences and caches needed to work. Notchable does not upload this local data unless you turn on an optional service described in this policy.
The Mac App Store build has no Notchable account and no developer-operated cloud sync.
Optional account and sync in the direct build
The build downloaded directly from notchable.io can optionally sign in to a Notchable account and sync supported preferences and Quick Notes through api.notchable.io. Depending on how you sign in, the account service processes your password or identity-provider token to authenticate the request. It does not retain the plain-text password or provider token. It stores your email address, optional display name, password hash for an email-and-password account, or provider account identifier for Apple, GitHub, or Google. It also stores the preferences and Quick Notes you choose to sync.
Account and sync are optional. Signing out stops future sync, but it does not by itself delete data already stored on the service. If you use Apple, GitHub, or Google sign-in, that provider handles the sign-in request under its own privacy policy.
Optional AI features
- Apple on-device AI: When you choose Apple’s on-device model, prompts and results are processed on your Mac.
- Ollama: When you choose a local or user-selected Ollama endpoint, Notchable sends the prompt and requested content to that endpoint. An endpoint on another computer is a network service you control.
- Cloud AI in the direct build: When you configure a user-configured cloud AI provider, the provider receives the prompts and content you ask Notchable to process. The Mac App Store build does not offer this cloud option.
Optional remote content
Features that display remote links and images can request that content from the website or image host. In the direct build, Now Playing can request Spotify artwork from the artwork URL supplied by Spotify when that feature is enabled.
The direct build automatically checks notchable.io/appcast.xml for app updates. The Mac App Store build uses the App Store update system instead.
When you request a Git fetch, pull, or push in the direct build, Git connects to the remote you configured. That remote and its authentication provider handle the request under their own privacy policies.
The direct build can load third-party external plugins. Those plugins are separate code and can add their own network requests or data handling. Review a plugin’s source, author, and privacy terms before installing it. The Mac App Store build does not load external plugins.
A destination service can receive normal connection information, including IP address and request metadata, under its own privacy policy.
Optional macOS permissions
macOS controls these protected resources. Notchable asks only when you enable or use a feature that needs one, and you can change access in System Settings.
- Accessibility supports your global shortcuts, detects the pointer entering the notch, and lets requested paste or typing actions reach the active app.
- Camera provides the optional camera mirror preview.
- Microphone supports optional dictation and audio-reactive features.
- Calendar shows upcoming events and lets you open meeting links.
- Reminders lets you create reminders from dates in Quick Notes.
- Apple Events (direct build only) lets user-requested features read or control apps such as Music and Spotify and carry out actions in other Mac apps. The Mac App Store build does not include this integration.
Advertising and analytics
The current Notchable codebase contains no advertising and no third-party analytics.
Retention and deletion
Local data stays on your Mac until you remove it. Use the delete or clear controls in Quick Notes, Clipboard, and Shelf for their content. To clear remaining settings and caches, remove Notchable’s stored application data.
Uninstalling Notchable stops the app from accessing or creating data, but macOS may leave settings and application data behind. Delete that remaining Notchable data from your Mac if you want complete local deletion.
If you used the optional direct-build account, email [email protected] to request deletion of your account and cloud data. Do not post private account details in a public support issue.
